Tucked in between Pembroke Avenue on the north, West End Drive on the south, Little Neck Parkway on the West, and Glenwood Street on the east, in Little Neck, Queens, is a quaint private community called Van Nostrand Court. Just one block from bustling Northern Boulevard with its shops, businesses, restaurants and supermarkets, you will find this group of thirty semi-attached and attached homes and two park areas surrounding a private roadway.
Built in 1925 by the McBride Ogden Construction Corporation, and designed to be an “English Garden Community “ by its developers, it has retained much of its original appearance because, while they are all well maintained, there are few structural changes to the homes themselves. The private Court “roadway“ is closed to vehicular traffic, providing a safe walking area, and the adjoining parks and gardens are maintained by the residents for their use.
Van Nostrand Court is an oasis of tranquility in a very busy area in Northern Queens. Visitors are always surprised to find that such a place still exists in any of the boroughs of New York City.
